Description

The workshop explores the sustainable benefits of historic preservation through adaptive reuse of old buildings, with a focus on modern office and commercial buildings. The workshop will be a combination of lecture-style education as well as a hands-on charrette to apply the lessons of the day.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will understand the planning theory of ReUrbanism and be able to identify various strategies for acquiring, funding, and redeveloping old buildings. Specific examples from architects & developers in Las Vegas will give participants a chance to evaluate adaptive reuse projects first hand. The afternoon charrette will allow attendees to apply the day’s topics to existing, vacant buildings and opportunities in Las Vegas, and discuss realistic solutions for the adaptive reuse of a select number of mid-century buildings in Southern Nevada.
