Hugh E. Taylor came to Las Vegas at the age of 25 to design the Desert Inn Casino for Wilbur Clark. With that project under his belt, he decided that Las Vegas was the place for him and his family. This relatively unknown Midcentury architect went on to spend the rest of his life in Las Vegas raising his children and designing almost 1,000 residential and commercial projects in the Las Vegas Valley and a few in the Los Angeles area. The true impact of Mr. Taylor's legacy is just now becoming known. Attend this free talk on the life and designs of Hugh E. Taylor given by Nevada Preservation executive director Heidi Swank. this in-depth look at Mr. Taylor's life will be presented at the University of Las Vegas' School of Architecture Library. While it is an excellent event on its own, it also makes a nice primer for the Vintage Vegas Home Tour that immediately follows. Dr. Swank that will talk about Mr. Taylor's life before and after the move to Las Vegas as well as the impact that Nevada Preservation's documentation of his archive has made on understanding Las Vegas' architectural past. See some of Mr. Taylor's designs and who knows? You might even get to meet some of the Taylor family!
